What to see and do in Castellanos de Zapardiel

Castellanos de Zapardiel
Village
Castellanos de Zapardiel is an abulense town of about 106 inhabitants, situated at the confluence of the Zapardiel river with the Valtodano, both of scant flow but causing frequent flooding throughout its history, such as those of 1891, 1900 and 1997. At the point where the Valtodano flows into the Zapardiel stand the remains of an old dam, known as la pesquera, probably built to contain these floods; the village, also surrounded by the Morteros stream, has traditionally been one of the most hard-pressed settlements in the area, since in major floods the three watercourses completely block its overland exits.
