Rueda de la Sierra
Village
Rueda de la Sierra is a municipality of the Señorío de Molina, in the province of Guadalajara, with 38 inhabitants. The Piedra river, which gives its name to the celebrated monastery downstream, rises within its territory. Until the reform of municipal nomenclature in 1916 the village was called simply Rueda. It preserves the church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, of Romanesque origin and 12th-century construction, a pillory of justice and the hermitages of la Soledad and Santa Bárbara, as well as a pairón dedicated to the Virgen del Pilar and the house of the Vallejo family, with its two public fountains. A monolith commemorates Bishop Narciso Martínez Izquierdo, born in the town in 1830, who came to hold the sees of Salamanca and Madrid-Alcalá.
