Atanzón
Village
Atanzón is a municipality of La Alcarria, in Guadalajara, in the eastern valleys of the river Ungría, with 83 inhabitants. Its name comes from Arabic and means mill. After the reconquest it belonged to the Tierra Común de Guadalajara; in the 13th century it passed to Fernán Rodríguez Pecha, and in 1469 it was sold to Álvar Gómez de Ciudad Real, secretary to Henry IV, whose family kept it until the abolition of the seigniories in the 19th century. It lived off dry-farming and orchards with sheep farming, with a grain mill and a loom active until the Real Fábrica de Paños of Brihuega, in the mid-18th century. It preserves the classicist church of the 16th century and the hermitage of la Soledad, and celebrates San Blas on 3 February and San Agustín from 26 to 31 August, with a bull run on foot on the 29th.
