Aldeanueva de Guadalajara
Village
Aldeanueva de Guadalajara is a municipality in the La Alcarria comarca, in the province of Guadalajara, situated at 946 metres above sea level, with a population of 107. It was established in the 12th century, at the time of the reconquest, under the name Aldeanueva; in 1630 it came to be called Santa Fe, and in the 18th century it recovered its original name, to which “de Guadalajara” was added to distinguish it from other villages of the same name. The village is presided over by the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, a rural Romanesque-Mudéjar temple restored in 1973, with a southern porch sheltering a Romanesque doorway and, in the sacristy, a 16th-century fresco of the Pietà. It celebrates San Isidro on 15 May, San Roque on 16 August and Santa Lucía on 13 December.
