Henarejos
Village
Henarejos is a municipality of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in Cuenca, with 134 inhabitants, built on the Santa Ana promontory, crowned by a reconstructed watchtower of Islamic origin, in the centre of a plain surrounded by hills. In its municipal area the Abrigo del Tío Modesto is preserved, with rock paintings of hunting scenes, and in the village the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, begun in 1593. In the week of 14 September, feast day of the Cristo de la Salud, the “fiesta del barro” (mud festival) is held, a bullfighting celebration in which the square becomes a mudpit crossed by cattle and costumed participants, ending with a foam bath and music in the Plaza Mayor.
