Fuentenava de Jábaga
Village
Fuentenava de Jábaga is a municipality in the comarca of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in the province of Cuenca, with 634 inhabitants, created in 1972 by the union of several municipal areas and formed by the settlements of Jábaga, where the town hall is located, Fuentesclaras de Chillarón, Navalón, Villar del Saz de Navalón, Sotoca and Valdecabrillas. The area, under the influence of ancient Roman Cuenca, lay along the road between Segóbriga and the Cuenca highlands. Jábaga was the camp of Pedro I the Cruel during his siege of Cuenca, and along its roads passed the first cocoa beans that the monks of Piedra carried to Uclés and from there to Aragon. The municipality preserves a Roman bridge, the abbey of Jábaga and the church of Nuestra Señora de la Purificación.
