What to see and do in Chillarón de Cuenca

Chillarón de Cuenca
Village
Chillarón de Cuenca is a municipality in the comarca of Serranía Media, nine kilometres from the provincial capital, which includes the settlement of Arcos de la Cantera and part of the Señorío del Pinar development; it has 907 inhabitants (2025). During the Muslim occupation it was a village under the castle of Conca — as Cuenca was then called — and its inhabitants worked in agriculture, horticulture and goat farming; after the reconquest by Alfonso VIII, its Muslim inhabitants emigrated, leaving hidden, according to tradition, a treasure that gives its name to the Cerro del Tesoro. Its quarries supplied the stone used in the construction of Cuenca Cathedral between the 12th and 15th centuries, and today it houses an ethnographic and industrial archaeology museum; the present church was built between 1839 and 1841.
