Villarejo de la Peñuela
Village
A municipality in the district of La Alcarria Conquense, in the province of Cuenca, located at 943 metres above sea level in a valley among the mountains of the central plateau, in the Cabrejas enclave, beside a river that probably prompted its founding by allowing for varied cultivation. It had 226 inhabitants in the mid-19th century and today has only 16 (INE 2025). Its main monument is the parish church of San Bartolomé Apóstol, with a round-arch portal framed by pilasters and a broken pediment, and a square three-tier Doric tower topped with ball finials. It also preserves the remains of a Renaissance ashlar palace. It borders the territories of Abia de la Obispalía, Torrejoncillo del Rey, Los Valdecolmenas and Villar y Velasco.
