Barchín del Hoyo
Village
Barchín del Hoyo is a municipality in the Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja district, in Cuenca, located at 950 meters of altitude on the left bank of the Júcar, in the region known as la Manchuela, between Olmedilla de Alarcón and Buenache de Alarcón. Its municipal area contains a settlement probably dating from the Iron Age, destroyed by Hannibal at the end of the 3rd century BC, as well as the ruins of a later Roman settlement. It received the title of villa from the Catholic Monarchs around 1478, in payment for the support given by its residents to Queen Isabel against the marqués de Villena, lord of Alarcón, on whom Barchín then depended. It has 104 inhabitants (INE 2025) and celebrates its patronal festivities from 14 to 18 August in honor of San Roque.
