Paredes
Village
Paredes is a municipality in La Mancha Conquense, in Cuenca, with 61 inhabitants over 19.36 km², in the Alcarria conquense, 66 km from the provincial capital. It arose as a small hamlet during the repopulation of the lands of Huete and remained deserted until the late 18th century, when it was resettled around a manor house, today 'la casa grande'; it was split off from Huelves in the 19th century and reappeared as a village in 1877. In the mid-20th century, after the estate was seized by the State, it was rebuilt as a village of the Instituto Nacional de Colonización to rehouse some fifty families from Santa María de Poyos, flooded by the Buendía reservoir; the first settlers arrived in 1951. Hence its uniform layout of single-family houses, typical of colonisation villages.
