Huelves
Village
Huelves is a municipality in the comarca of La Mancha Conquense, in the province of Cuenca, with 105 inhabitants, crowned by the ruins of the Acuña castle, possibly built over a small fort from Roman times similar to others in the area linked to the control of the lapis specularis mines. The fortress, with a rectangular enclosure and circular towers, may have formed part of the border between the kingdom of Castile and the taifa of Toledo; its use in the 12th century is attributed to Alvar Fáñez, before it was rebuilt in the 15th century by Lope Vázquez de Acuña y Carrillo de Albornoz, 1st Duke of Huete. Paredes was split off from its territory in the 19th century.
