What to see and do in Firgas

Firgas
Village
The smallest municipality in Gran Canaria by area, in the northern highlands, settled from 1484 by Tomás Rodríguez de Palenzuela and made an independent town council in 1835. Its identity revolves around water: springs, an old spa and a mineral-water bottling plant that supplies the archipelago.
Paseo de Gran Canaria y Paseo de Canarias
Monument
Two pedestrian promenades in the center of Firgas built in stone, with a 30-meter artificial waterfall and Seville-style mosaics depicting the Canary Islands and their municipalities, a tribute to the water culture that gives the town its name and identity.
Molino de Firgas o del Conde
Monument
Hydraulic gofio mill built around 1512-1517 at the initiative of the Countship of Vega Grande, on the road between Firgas and Valleseco. It operated continuously for more than four centuries until the drought of 1959 forced it to stop; restored afterward, it is considered the oldest gofio mill still working in the Canary Islands and was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's top heritage-protection category) in 2007.
Barranco de Azuaje
Nature
Gorge with a permanent stream separating Firgas from Moya, with hot-water springs that gave rise to a 19th-century spa, today in ruins, within the Parque Rural de Doramas.
Fiestas de San Roque de Firgas
Curiosity
Patronal pilgrimage on 16 August, with decorated carts and offerings of farm produce, a tradition documented since the 16th century.
