La Muela
Village
La Muela is a municipality of 6,737 inhabitants in the comarca of Valdejalón, province of Zaragoza, 23 kilometres from the capital. It sits at 598 metres above sea level above the flood plain of the Jalón river, on the Meseta de La Muela, a plateau isolated within the Ebro valley whose highest point, El Castellano, reaches 628 metres. King James I the Conqueror granted it a founding charter on 5 February 1259; it was a district of Zaragoza until in the 19th century it became an independent municipality, and by the middle of that century it had 411 inhabitants. It preserves the Renaissance church of San Clemente, from the 16th century, and is today known for the wind farms installed within its boundaries.
