What to see and do in Villahermosa del Campo

Villahermosa del Campo
Village
Villahermosa del Campo is a municipality in the Jiloca district, in the province of Teruel, at 956 metres above sea level and 104 km from the capital, crossed by the river Huerva along its left bank. Its origins go back to the conquest of Daroca by Alfonso I of Aragon in 1120, and it is first documented in 1205, when it was called Villa Albiella. In 1248, by privilege of James I, it broke away from Daroca and joined the Sesma de Langa, within the Comunidad de Aldeas de Daroca, thereafter depending directly on the king; the name later evolved into Villaformosa and Villa Fermosa. Its church of Santa María Magdalena, from the 16th century, preserves two Renaissance altarpieces on a structure of Romanesque origin. It has 91 inhabitants today.
