What to see and do in Alacón

Alacón
Village
Alacón is a small municipality in the Andorra-Sierra de Arcos comarca, in the province of Teruel, set within the mid-mountain landscape of the Teruel Sistema Ibérico formed by the Sierra de Arcos, which gives the comarca its name. The village sits on a high hill, at the confluence of the Muela and Mortero ravines, within the Río Martín Cultural Park. Between these ravines stands the ermita of San Miguel, where locals go on pilgrimage; in the town centre are the ermita del Calvario and the Old Tower, of Arab origin, as well as the Mill Museum, devoted to olive oil. Some five hundred wine cellars dug into the northern slope of the hill hold the wine still made there following the comarca's traditional methods.

The río Martín cuts through it in a narrow gorge between the towns of Ariño and Albalate del Arzobispo, widening only where it meets less resistant outcrops of marls and Triassic gypsum.
