What to see and do in Hoz y Costeán

Hoz y Costeán
Village
Hoz y Costeán, in Aragonese Oz y Costean, is a municipality in the comarca of Somontano de Barbastro, near the sierra de Salinas, with 225 inhabitants spread among the hamlets of Hoz de Barbastro, Salinas de Hoz, Costean, Guardia and Montesa. It came into being between 1970 and 1980 from the merger of the former municipalities of Hoz de Barbastro and Costeán, with its seat in the former. Hoz de Barbastro was conquered from the Muslims by Sancho Ramírez in 1094, the same year in which this king also took the nearby Salinas de Hoz, Naval and Artasona. The municipality today brings together the parish churches of Santa María Magdalena, San Millán and Santiago Apóstol, as well as a cross dedicated to San Pedro Mártir, and keeps up festivities spread among its hamlets, such as those of San Lorenzo and the Virgen del Carmen.
