What to see and do in Fago

Fago
Village
Fago is one of the smallest and most isolated municipalities of La Jacetania, in Huesca, next to the Majones river and close to the border with Navarre. It is one of the least populated municipalities in Aragon, with 25 inhabitants according to the 2024 register, and Aragonese is still preserved among its residents. A typical Pyrenean mountain village, it has cobbled streets and civil architecture with steep roofs and conical chimneys; its 16th-century parish church preserves an earlier Romanesque chrismon. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the hardship of life led many young women to emigrate temporarily to work in espadrille factories on the other side of the French border, in what was known as "swallow migration". In the mid-19th century, according to Madoz, it had 445 inhabitants.
Church of Fago
Monument
The church of Fago replaced an earlier Romanesque temple in 1582 with the current late-Gothic building; two polychrome altarpieces dedicated to San Sebastián and the Virgen del Rosario, the work of Domingo Alcalá, were completed in 1607.
