Parque Nacional de la Sierra de las Nieves
Nature
Limestone massif shared by several municipalities in the comarca, famed for its forests of pinsapo, a fir endemic to the south of the peninsula. It was a Natural Park from 1989 and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve from 1995; Law 9/2021 of 1 July declared it a National Park, with 22,980 hectares, the most recently created in Spain at that date.
Tolox
Village
Fortified in 883 by Umar ibn Hafsun during his rebellion against the Caliphate of Córdoba, it was reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1485. Its spa of mineral-medicinal waters, discovered in 1867 and declared of public utility in 1871, remains in operation. It now has around 2,500 inhabitants.
Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel de Tolox
Monument
Built in 1505 and rebuilt in 1577 by Diego de Vergara after a fire caused during the Morisco rebellion. It preserves three 18th-century canvases attributed to Diego de la Cerda.

Balneario de Tolox

Waters discovered in 1867 and declared of public utility in 1871; the spa officially opened in 1869 and its current building, from 1906, was expanded in 1931.

16th-century manor house in Tolox; the Plaza Alta also preserves the so-called Casa de la Santa Inquisición, from the late 17th century, alongside castle walls attributed to Phoenician origin.
La fortificación de Omar Ben Hafsún en Tolox
Historical milestone
The castle of Tolox was fortified by Umar ibn Hafsun in 883. After the Christian reconquest of 1485 the town was handed over to the Marquis of Villena; in 1568 it suffered a Morisco uprising, and in 1571 Philip II ordered its resettlement.
Pico de la Torrecilla y Sima GESM
Nature
La Torrecilla, the highest peak of the Sierra de las Nieves, crowns a karst massif that contains the Sima GESM system, a cave with more than 1,100 meters explored and an unusual coexistence of high-mountain and subtropical flora.
La Cohetá y las fiestas de San Roque de Tolox
Activity
On 16 August, Tolox holds "la Cohetá", a procession accompanied by fireworks, as part of the Saint Roch festivities on the second weekend of August.
