What to see and do in El Bosque

El Bosque
Village
El Bosque is a municipality in Cádiz at the foot of the Sierra de Grazalema, on the bank of the Majaceite river, within the Grazalema and Los Alcornocales natural parks and on the Route of the Pueblos Blancos; it lives from tourism, cured meats, cheeses and a craft industry of leatherwork and furniture. The town originated around 1520 around the Palacio de Marchenilla, which the Catholic Monarchs granted in 1490 as a hunting residence to Rodrigo Ponce de León, then 1st Duke of Cádiz, after the reconquest of Zahara de la Sierra; it was his grandson, also named Rodrigo Ponce de León and by then 1st Duke of Arcos, who around 1520 divided up this land and marked the origin of the town. El Bosque obtained the title of villa in 1815, by Royal Decree of Ferdinand VII, for its resistance against the French.
