What to see and do in San Tirso de Abres

San Tirso de Abres
Village
San Tirso de Abres is an Asturian concejo of 396 inhabitants and a single parish, located at the westernmost end of Asturias and surrounded on three sides by lands of Lugo — Trabada to the northwest and Puente Nuevo to the south —, where eonaviego or Galician-Asturian is spoken. It sits in the valley of the middle course of the río Eo, which crosses it from west to east, on a soil of Silurian slate traditionally used for roofs, fences and house construction. Its climate, mild owing to the proximity of the sea, hardly ever sees hard frosts or extreme heat. It now lives off dairy cattle, which provides almost three quarters of employment, and preserves castros, the church of San Juan Bautista and the Amaido palace.
The eonaviego fala
Curiosity
Between the Eo and the Navia people speak a Romance variety of the Galician-Portuguese branch which its speakers simply call fala; the Principality's Law 1/1998 recognises it as Galician-Asturian and grants it protection similar to that given to Asturian.

Nature
The only Asturian municipality that the Eo crosses from end to end over Silurian slates, with riverside woods and pools where trout and salmon are fished; with fewer than four hundred residents, it won the Premio al Pueblo Ejemplar de Asturias in 2011.
