What to see and do in Meaño

Meaño
Village
Meaño is a concello of around 5,200 inhabitants situated at the heart of the Pontevedra district of Salnés, with seven parishes spread across 28 square kilometres. A mountain ridge, a southwestern extension of the Castrove, runs through the east of the territory without exceeding 400 metres in altitude, while to the west a fertile plain opens out, given over to intensive farming, with greenhouses and vineyards of albariño and caíño, as well as kiwi. Dena, the most populous parish, with close to half the municipality's inhabitants, is the only one that looks out onto the ria of Arousa. The da Chanca river runs through the territory, rising at the springs of Fontefría and Montemaior. Agriculture remains Meaño's main economic activity.
Palace of Zárate
Monument
A 16th-century manor house in the parish of Padrenda, one of the most notable examples of civil architecture in the municipality along with the Baroque pazo of Lis and the pazo of Ríos, at Dena.
Viewpoint of San Cibrán de Cobas
Nature
A natural balcony over the ría de Arousa from which A Illa de Arousa, Cortegada and the mussel rafts can be picked out; it forms part of a route of municipal viewpoints that also takes in those of Xil, Simes and Lores.
Quinta de San Amaro
Monument
A seigneurial house of the concello of Meaño surrounded by albariño vineyard, an example of the type of rural quinta that combined residence, chapel and winery in the heart of the comarca of O Salnés.
Fontefría
Nature
A summit of 396 metres, the greatest altitude of Meaño, with a viewpoint over the ría of Arousa; together with Montemaior and the Chan de Lores it closes to the east the wine-growing valley in which the seven parishes sit.
