Medellín
Village
Municipality of 2,241 inhabitants (2025), founded in 79 BC by the Roman consul Quinto Cecilio Metelo Pío under the name Metellinum. It is the birthplace of Hernán Cortés, conqueror of Mexico, born here in 1485. Batalla de Medellín (1809)

Monument

Palacio de los Portocarrero y convento de San Agustín
Monument
Remains of the palace of the Counts of Medellín, the Portocarrero family, with a 16th-century doorway, and the 17th-century doorway of the former Convent of San Agustín, testimonies of seigneurial Medellín.
