Ucar
Village
A small municipality with fewer than 200 inhabitants. From the 11th century it belonged to the monastery of San Juan de la Peña. In 1370, the nobleman Rodrigo de Úriz, chamberlain to King Carlos II of Navarre and a combatant at the Battle of Cocherel, acquired the territory; following his execution for treason, the property passed to the royal domain, and in 1407 Carlos III incorporated it into the viscounty of Muruzábal, created for his half-brother Leonel de Navarra. In its municipal area once stood the old settlement of Ahe, documented in the Libro de Fuegos (Hearth Book) of 1427.
