Els Omellons
Village
Els Omellons is a small rural municipality in the comarca of les Garrigues, with 187 inhabitants, located between les Borges Blanques and l'Espluga Calba; it split off from La Floresta in 1897. Its economy is based on olive oil from the protected designation of origin Les Garrigues, vineyards protected by the DO Costers del Segre, and almond trees. Its church of Sant Miquel, from the 18th century, has a baroque façade, three naves, a square-plan bell tower and a baroque stone altarpiece, and in the village stands Casa Llorach, built in 1770 on former oil and flour mills; it was the birthplace of the romantic poet Ezequiel Llorach (1846-1887) and was declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in 1980.
