What to see and do in Palazuelos de la Sierra

Palazuelos de la Sierra
Village
Palazuelos de la Sierra is a hamlet in the Alfoz de Burgos district, situated between Cueva de Juarros and Villamiel de la Sierra, already documented in 957, when the monastery of Cardeña received the donation of a firewood pasture there; the surname "de la Sierra" was added from the 14th century to distinguish it from other villages of the same name. It was known as the village of the seven mills, driven by the waters of the river Matanzas, of which today only the mill of San Cristóbal survives, restored and in communal use. Its church of San Bartolomé, finished in the late 18th century over a 13th-century Romanesque temple, preserves corbels and an old baptismal font, as well as a Neoclassical main altarpiece from 1792. With 95 inhabitants, it celebrates in July the pilgrimage to the Virgen de la Yedra, its patroness.
