What to see and do in Robledo

Robledo
Village
Municipality of the comarca of Sierra de Alcaraz y Campo de Montiel, in the province of Albacete, set on the so-called Camino de Aníbal, a trade route later followed by the Via Augusta and along whose course Greek pottery and Roman terra sigillata have come to light. In its district are the Laguna del Arquillo, with a Neolithic motilla and a rock shelter with paintings in red pigment representing a fish and a sixteen-point stag, the Bronze Age settlement of El Castillico, and the karstic lagoon of the Ojos de Villaverde.
Cave paintings of the Arquillo
Monument
Neolithic rock art in red pigment depicting a fish and an impressive stag with sixteen-point antlers.
Church of la Purísima Concepción de Robledo
Monument
Church of the Purísima Concepción, the main religious building in the town centre of Robledo (Albacete), in the region of the Sierra de Alcaraz and Campo de Montiel. It was for a long time annexed to the parish of the Santísima Trinidad of Alcaraz, until the parishioners themselves rebuilt it in 1815.
Settlement of the Castillico
Monument
The Poblado del Castillico is the largest of the Bronze Age settlements documented in the municipal area of Robledo (Albacete), located at the south-eastern edge of the municipality. About three thousand years ago a small community settled there, cultivating nearby gardens that were reached through an opening in the small wall surrounding the settlement's perimeter. Abundant fragments of coarse pottery have been found at the site, the main material evidence of the daily life of its inhabitants.
Lagoon of el Arquillo
Nature
The Laguna del Arquillo is a wetland declared a natural monument of Castilla-La Mancha, in the Albacete region of the Sierra de Alcaraz, within the municipal area of Masegoso. It occupies a protected area of 522 hectares, with an additional peripheral zone of 3757 hectares. Its aquatic vegetation includes water lilies and reed beds, as well as marginal grassland and rush thickets, and among its fauna the Saint Anthony's little frog and the leprous terrapin stand out. In the surrounding area, caves with rock paintings have been found just a few metres from the water's surface, and a Neolithic motilla mound is also preserved there, one of the most valuable natural sites in the area.
Ojos de Villaverde
Nature
A lagoon of karst origin fed by springs, one of the singular wetlands of the Sierra de Alcaraz.
Robledo on Hannibal's Road
Curiosity
The municipality lies on the so-called Way of Hannibal, the route later followed by the Via Augusta and a key trading link between the Mediterranean and Andalusia. Greek pottery and Roman terra sigillata have been found in the municipal district.
Festivities of la Virgen del Pilar de Robledo
Activity
The municipality's main festivities in honour of the Virgen del Pilar, the leading event of the local festive calendar. They are held on 12 October with a high mass in the church of the Purísima Concepción, a temple that the residents themselves rebuilt in 1815.
