What to see and do in Ontur

Ontur
Village
Ontur, called Otur until 1857, is a municipality in the comarca of Campos de Hellín, in the province of Albacete, bordering the Región de Murcia. It belonged to the Muslim taifa of Murcia until, in 1243, with the Treaty of Alcaraz, it passed to the Crown of Castile within the Kingdom of Murcia; between 1244 and 1256 it belonged to the señorío of Caudete, and afterwards to the marquisate of Villena. It lives on the vine, the olive, the almond and market gardens, with wines protected by the Denominación de Origen Jumilla, and its parish church is San José. From a child's tomb in its territory come five articulated dolls from the 3rd and 4th centuries, four of ivory and one of amber, a luxury few Roman families could afford. It has 1,895 inhabitants (INE 2025).
