What to see and do in Haría

Haría
Village
Municipality in northern Lanzarote whose name comes from a pre-Hispanic word related to the Arabic "chafariz" (fountain or spring). Known as the "valley of a thousand palm trees," it brings together ten settlements, among them Máguez, Órzola, Punta Mujeres and Arrieta.
Ataque de Morato Arráez a Haría (1586)
Historical milestone
In 1586 the Berber corsair Morato Arráez landed on Lanzarote at the head of about 600 men and devastated several towns in the north of the island, among them Haría, in one of the most remembered pirate attacks in Lanzarote's history.
Cueva de los Verdes
Nature
Visitable stretch of a volcanic tube about 7 km long formed some 21,000 years ago by the eruption of the Corona volcano; it served as a refuge for the people of Lanzarote against Berber corsair attacks, and it gives its name to the Verdes family who used it as shelter for their livestock. It was illuminated for visits in 1964 and today also houses the seismological station of Lanzarote's geodynamic observatory.
Jameos del Agua
Monument
Space created by César Manrique in a stretch of the same Corona volcanic tube as the Cueva de los Verdes, opened to the public in 1966 and officially inaugurated in 1977. It includes a lake with the endemic blind, albino cave crab Munidopsis polymorpha, an auditorium and, since 1987, the Casa de los Volcanes.
Mirador del Río
Monument
Lookout point built by César Manrique between 1971 and 1973 on the Risco de Famara, integrated into the landscape and with almost no right angles, so that it is nearly invisible from outside. Its windows look out over the El Río strait, with La Graciosa, Montaña Clara and Alegranza in the background, above old artillery batteries from the Spanish-American War.
