What to see and do in Vierlas

Vierlas
Village
Vierlas is a small municipality in the comarca of Tarazona y el Moncayo, in the province of Zaragoza, situated on the right bank of the Queiles river, at 456 metres above sea level and about five kilometres from Tarazona. Documented as Bierlas in the Middle Ages, its name may derive from a root related to bank or stream; its coat of arms, approved in 1999, depicts a skittle, alluding to the traditional Aragonese game of ninepins. The fertility of the Queiles basin and the abundance of flint favoured settlement from the Neolithic onward. The Roman road linking Astorga with Zaragoza passed through its territory, and a mid-2nd-century Roman military diploma was found there, now kept in the museum of Tarazona. It today has 88 inhabitants (INE 2025).
