Acered
Village
Acered is a municipality in the province of Zaragoza, in the Campo de Daroca district, situated at 835 metres above sea level and 110 kilometres from the capital. Its name comes from the Arabic al-sirat, the road, and today the village forms part of the Camino del Cid, on the stretch called Las Tres Taifas. It has 131 inhabitants, compared with the 230 it had in the mid-19th century. Its parish church, dedicated to la Asunción, dates from the 16th century, with a transept dome decorated with pendentives, and the village is known for its pilgrimage to the hermitage of the Virgen de Semón, celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
