It was Turdetanian Maenuba and later Roman Laelia, named by Gaius Laelius Sapiens in honor of his father. The town was conquered in 1246 by Pelayo Pérez Correa. In 1916 it adopted its current name, Albaida del Aljarafe.

Monument
18th-century neoclassical parish temple that replaced a 14th-century Mudejar church destroyed by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. It preserves religious imagery and altarpieces from the 17th to 19th centuries and is home to three of the municipality's brotherhoods.
Albaida del Aljarafe, de Maenuba a Laelia
Historical milestone
The settlement was founded by the Turdetani as Maenuba around the 6th century BC. After Scipio's conquest, the legate Gaius Laelius turned it into the Roman city of Laelia (140 BC), which even minted its own coinage. In the Muslim period it was called Solluqar al-bayda ('the white one'), the origin of its current name.
Romería de la Virgen de Loreto
Activity
Patronal festivals in honour of the Virgen de los Dolores that include, on 6 September, the pilgrimage procession to the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Loreto and, on the 8th, the return procession to the town.
Corredor Verde del Guadiamar a su paso por Albaida
Nature
The municipal territory of Albaida borders the Guadiamar Green Corridor, an environmental recovery route created after the 1998 Aznalcóllar mining spill, visible on the plain stretching from the Torre de don Fadrique toward Aznalcóllar and Gerena.
