What to see and do in Júzcar

Júzcar, el pueblo pitufo
Curiosity
On 16 June 2011 Júzcar hosted the world premiere of Sony Pictures' film 'The Smurfs', for which an advertising agency painted every house in the village blue. Following a local referendum in December of that year, residents decided to keep the blue colour for its tourism benefits, and it remains so today.
Real Fábrica de Hojalata de Júzcar
Historical milestone
Spain's first tinplate factory, founded in 1731 under Philip V, which came to employ 200 workers, including German technicians hired abroad.
Júzcar
Village
Village of the Genal Valley, in the Serranía de Ronda (Málaga), at about 600 meters altitude. Like the rest of the region, it suffered the expulsion of the Moriscos and the subsequent resettlement. In the 18th century it was home to the Real Fábrica de Hojalata de San Miguel, one of the first tinplate factories in Spain. In 2025 it had 208 inhabitants.
