The 1973 Puerto Lumbreras Flood Curiosity · Puerto Lumbreras, Alto Guadalentín, Murcia Image of Puerto Lumbreras, not of the place itself. On 19 October 1973 torrential rain of more than 300 mm caused the Rambla de Nogalte to burst its banks with a flow of almost 2,000 m³/s, claiming 84 lives in Puerto Lumbreras. After the disaster the rambla was channelled through the town, which prevented serious damage in an even larger flood in 2012. Photo: Wikipuerto (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Puerto Lumbreras
