Collegiate church of San Pedro de Teverga Monument · Teverga, Oviedo, Asturias The collegiate church of San Pedro stands in La Plaza, a village in the Asturian concejo of Teverga, and is one of the earliest examples of Romanesque architecture in the region, built in the 11th century as a transition from the pre-Romanesque; the earliest documentation about it dates from 1096, and the collegiate church is believed to have been founded in 1107. It was originally a Benedictine monastery, donated by Countess doña Aldonza to the church of San Salvador in Oviedo. With a Latin-cross plan of three naves and a rectangular apse after a fire in the 17th century, it retains barrel vaults, round arches on cylindrical columns, a wide porch at the foot of the church and capitals carved with reliefs of animals of symbolic character. Beside the church, mummified remains found within the building itself are on display. Photo: "teixeu"/Ramón Gutiérrez (CC BY 2.0) What to see and do in Teverga
