Cave of Llonín Nature · Peñamellera Alta, Oriente, Asturias It was discovered in 1957 by cheesemakers looking for a place to mature their cheeses; it holds more than a hundred figures and signs, the largest repertoire of Asturian cave art, and entered the World Heritage list in 2008, within the group of the Cave of Altamira and the Palaeolithic cave art of the Cantabrian coast. It is also known as concha da Cova or the cheese cave, and was not made publicly known until March 1971, when it was disclosed by the Polifemo caving group of Oviedo. Its drawings depict bison, reindeer and goats, among other animals. Owing to its frequent collapses it remains closed to the public, although a copy of a small part of the cave can be visited at the Teverga prehistory park.
