Tower of Sirviella Monument · Onís, Oriente, Asturias A 16th-century civil tower house, three storeys high, with a round-arched doorway of large ashlar blocks, located in the village of Sirviella (Onís), today amid a meadow and near the crossing of two local roads opened at a much more modern time than the tower's construction. Some buildings that depended on it, such as its chapel and a dwelling to the west, have been left isolated, and part of its volume is embedded in the ground because the meadow surrounding it was raised above the original plot. It is an example of vernacular architecture with artistic pretensions that combines elements of various styles, which allows it to be dated to the 16th century, a transition between the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) with monument status in 2004. Photo: Ramón (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in Onís
