Mountain range of el Sueve Nature · Caravia, Oriente, Asturias A limestone massif protected as a landscape, rising barely five kilometres from the sea and culminating in the Picu Pienzu, at 1,161 metres; beside it stands the adjoining Sierra del Fito, with a viewpoint over the coast and the interior and famous for the Subida Internacional al Fito. The protected landscape of the Sueve, declared in 1994, covers 8,112 hectares spread across the municipalities of Colunga, Caravia, Ribadesella, Parres and Piloña. Its beech and yew woods shelter fallow deer, red deer, foxes and wild boar, as well as birds of prey such as the Egyptian vulture and the bearded vulture; on its pastures the asturcón, the native Asturian pony, lives semi-wild alongside casina cattle. In Gobiendes, on the northern slope, an interpretation centre opened in 2007 explains these features. Photo: Mario modesto (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Caravia
