Beach of Penarronda Nature · Tapia de Casariego, Eo-Navia, Asturias Penarronda beach stretches beside the village of Santa Gadea, in the settlement of Barres, on the boundary between the concejos of Tapia de Casariego and Castropol, on the western coast of Asturias. It is 600 metres long and 315 metres wide on average, between the cliffs of La Robaleira and Punta del Corno, and is split in two by the Penarronda stream, or Dola river. It is the largest and most visited beach in the concejo, with easy access from the N-634 and good conditions for surfing; at its centre stands the well-known Pedra Castelo. It protects a dune field uncommon on the north coast — thirty-four hectares declared a natural monument on 3 October 2002, also a Special Protection Area and a site of community importance — where the sea stock survives and the Eurasian oystercatcher nests.
