Lighthouse of la isla de Tapia Monument · Tapia de Casariego, Eo-Navia, Asturias The Tapia lighthouse, or lighthouse of the island of Tapia, stands on a small islet joined to the mainland by a breakwater some hundred metres long, as part of the port of Tapia de Casariego. It is the westernmost lighthouse in the Principality of Asturias, 6 kilometres from the Eo ria, the border with Galicia, and it comes under the Port Authority of Avilés. Inaugurated on 1 September 1859, it originally consisted of a single-storey square building around a central courtyard, with the tower attached to the north face; after an extension in 1922, the 1962 renovation gave it its current square exterior shape, with the sign «Tapia» on that face. It was electrified in 1944; today it reaches 24 metres above sea level and emits groups of three white flashes every 19 seconds.
