Coal port of San Esteban de Pravia Curiosity · Muros de Nalón, Avilés, Asturias Image of Muros de Nalón, not of the place itself. Although it bears the name of Pravia, the port is actually in Muros de Nalón: it preserves loading cranes from the first decades of the 20th century and port buildings erected between 1926 and 1940, through which Asturian coal was shipped out. Located on the left bank of the ria of Pravia, at the mouth of the Nalón, it enjoyed its heyday between the late 19th century and the mid-20th century as the port from which coal mined in the basins of Mieres, Aller, Riosa, Teverga, Quirós, Cangas del Narcea and Tineo was shipped, carried by the railway known as El Vasco. It also preserves an old lighthouse overlooking the harbour mouth, and on the other side of the ria lies the village of San Juan de la Arena; today its use is mainly recreational, with a few fishing boats.
