Castillo de Butrón

Monument · Gatika, Plentzia-Mungia, Bizkaia

Tower house of the lords of Butrón, documented from the 13th century and converted into a castle during the late medieval Wars of the Bands. After centuries of neglect, the architect Francisco de Cubas rebuilt it from 1878 onward, commissioned by the Marquis of Torrecilla, following the model of Romantic Bavarian castles, giving it its current fairy-tale-castle appearance.
