Sil Canyon Nature · Sober, Terra de Lemos, Lugo The Sil Canyon, carved by the río Sil near its confluence with the Miño, in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, marks the southern boundary of the municipality of Sober and also forms a natural border between Ourense and Lugo, within an area of some six thousand hectares declared a special conservation zone. Its walls, with drops of more than five hundred metres and slopes of up to fifty degrees, originated from Quaternary tectonic processes that fractured the ground into blocks; on its sunlit slopes, terraced into steps since Roman and medieval times, grow the vineyards of the Ribeira Sacra Designation of Origin. The canyon can be toured by catamaran, and among its wildlife the genet and the wildcat stand out. Photo: luimipi (foto sacada por min, no vrán 2005) (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Sober
