Provincial Sea Museum Monument · Cervo, Mariña Occidental, Lugo It is the oldest public sea museum in Galicia, housed in San Cibrao in a school building from 1931. It was born in the summer of 1969, when the schoolteacher Francisco Moisés Rivera Casás turned the old school, together with his pupils, into a museum devoted to the seafaring life of the Lugo coast, and it was established as a public body in 1994, then run by the Asociación de Veciños Cruz da Venta; in 2006 it was brought into the Rede Museística Provincial of the Diputación de Lugo, which has managed the building since the Cervo town council handed it over in 2004. Its rooms cover the original school, traditional ribeira boat carpentry and the shipyards of San Cibrao, active since the 15th century, the trades of the sea and the history of whale hunting; admission is free.
