Islands of the Farallóns Nature · Cervo, Mariña Occidental, Lugo Image of Cervo, not of the place itself. The Illas dos Farallóns are a small archipelago in the municipality of Cervo (Lugo), visible from the promenade of the port of San Cibrao and a refuge for seabirds; the ancient Greeks already knew them as Trileucos. They are formed by three islets -A Sombriza, A Baixa and O Pé-, of rugged, rocky terrain totalling six hectares, and they have been the scene of several shipwrecks, such as those of the steamer María del Carmen F in 1931 or the cargo ship Castillo Moncada in 1945. In a cave on A Sombriza, the largest of the islands, tradition places the dwelling of the Maruxaina, the mermaid who gives her name to the festival celebrated every second Saturday of August.
