Ancares Lucenses Biosphere Reserve Nature · Cervantes, Ancares, Lugo The Reserva de la Biosfera de Os Ancares Lucenses e Montes de Cervantes, Navia e Becerreá was declared by Unesco in 2006 and protects the forests, brañas and summits shared by these three municipalities, covering 53,664 hectares of the Ancares range. It is a territory of Atlantic climate at high and medium mountain altitudes where the confluence of the Eurosiberian and Mediterranean regions generates notable biodiversity, with northern species alongside others typical of the Mediterranean. The landscape is crossed by the valleys of the river network draining towards the Navia river, with a difference in elevation of up to 1,600 metres between its bed, at 300 metres, and the 1,935 metres of the Mustallar summit. In Cervantes some 1,028 species of vascular plants have been catalogued, almost half of those found in the whole of Galicia. Photo: Norte (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in Cervantes
