Neira River Nature · Baralla, Ancares, Lugo The Neira river rises in the Serra do Portelo, at 840 metres above sea level, in A Fontaneira (Baleira), and runs 56 kilometres with a basin of 830 km² before flowing into the left bank of the Miño, at the point where the municipalities of Guntín, O Páramo and O Corgo meet; it receives the waters of the Tórdea and the Sarria as its main tributaries. As it passes through Baralla it forms the valley of Neira de Xusá, where the town sits, amid forests of oaks, chestnuts and birches that give it a reputation for great fish-life and ecological richness.
