The gold torc known as the Torque de Porto appeared at the castro das Modias, a fortified settlement located at San Martiño do Porto, in the municipality of Cabanas, set on an almost oval peninsula that naturally defends the river Castro; its central enclosure, about 80 by 100 metres, is surrounded by an earthwork topped with an earthen wall. The Diputación of A Coruña acquired the piece in 1868, and it is today kept in the Archaeological and Historical Museum of Santo Antón Castle, in A Coruña.
