Palace of Meirás Monument · Sada, Coruña, A Coruña The pazo de Meirás, also called las Torres de Meirás, is a grand house in the Romantic style built around 1900, in the late 19th century, on the ruins of an earlier building, burned by the French during the War of Independence; it was commissioned by the writer Emilia Pardo Bazán, Countess of Pardo Bazán, who wrote a good part of her work there. It consists of three crenellated towers of different sizes joined by a body of granite ashlar; in the largest, which the writer called the Torre da Quimera, stood her library, and in the chapel, with a Romanesque doorway brought from elsewhere, Pardo Bazán married on 10 July 1868. Declared Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 2008, the Franco family used it as a summer residence from 1938, and a 2020 court ruling returned it to the State.
