Church of Santa María de Cambre Monument · Cambre, Coruña, A Coruña Parish church in the Compostelan Romanesque style, on the banks of the Mero river, in the centre of the concello of Cambre. It arose from a family monastery of the early Middle Ages, founded by the knight Alvito and his sisters, which in the year 932 came under the authority of San Paio de Antealtares and, from 1489, of San Martiño Pinario; it was sacked and burned by the English in 1589 and by the French in 1809, and had to be largely rebuilt. Its present fabric, from the late 12th century, was completed in the 13th century with a proto-Gothic chevet of five radiating chapels inspired by the cathedral of Santiago. It was declared a national monument on 3 June 1931 and preserves the font known as the Hidria de Xerusalén. Photo: Miguel Branco (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Cambre
