A Benedictine house documented in 1138 under Abbot Frei Recendus; a fire in 1338 destroyed the complex and only the Romanesque church survived, rebuilt with help from the Andrade family, and it was declared a Monumento Nacional (Spain's heritage designation in force until 1931) in 1973.
